In reply to <a href="https://www.matthewrmorris.com/forgotten-dr-chris-spence-already/#comment-15967">Pat Tan-Sew</a>.

Thank you for your response, Pat.

I completely agree. I think there may have been some issues that the general public was not privy to but I do believe that he had a "target" on his back since the day he took the role as Director of Education. He was an excellent teacher and an even greater inspiration. He espoused the idea of a open-door policy and I hope that we can continue to re-kindle the flame that he left us with. He inspired more than students...

Why is TDSB so vindictive and cruel to Chris Spence ?

It is about time that We as educators give Mr Spence a break in his plagiarism mistake which has cost him immensely already ...esp for incoming 2017.

Mr Spence did inspire many students at TDSB.

TDSB Board, Ministry of Education .. pls do consider this humble request ...

Thank you ...

Thank you Matthew for this generous testimony.

I had the privilege of working for and with Dr. Chris Spence. I made many, many mistakes but he never criticised or held my mistakes against me.

I will be forever thankful for the time I was able to walk along side this great yet humble man.

When I first met Dr. Chris Spence, he was my middle school principal at Lawrence Heights Middle School in Toronto. He is truly a genuinely inspiring man of academia. He was so involved, knew all of us by name, had nicknames for us, and was more than just an authority figure--he was our friend. At school assemblies there were 3 defining songs he always played: "I believe I can fly" by R. Kelly, "Celebration" by Kool and the Gang, and "Man in the mirror" by Michael Jackson. These songs were reminders to believe in ourselves and never stop reaching for the stars, celebrate our accomplishments and reflect inwards when things go wrong. Strong messages that still resonate with me today. Regardless of the allegations against him, I still believe he is all those things. My thoughts and feelings about him have never wavered. Thank you, Matthew, for such a beautifully written post about a great man.
